A July birthday for a very patriotic person just kinda screams for a red/white/blue color scheme, doesn’t it? So, when Pals Paper Arts included those colors in a challenge back in June (here), I had to play. The SU colors, Real Red, Night of Navy, and Whisper White are about as red, white, and blue as you can get!
There’s a lot of retired product used in this card–the wide Real Red polka dot ribbon, the star stamp, the sentiment stamp (it’s part of a larger one that I cropped to suit my needs here), the corduroy brad used to hold the pinwheel together. But the basic card layout and elements translate to any new or old product you’ve got laying around.
The pinwheel, the focus of the card, is easy to assemble from cardstock you stamp yourself or designer series paper. And the center of the pinwheel looks great with any other style of brad or buttons.
I used a variety of circle punches to echo the circles on the stamped image on the pinwheel, and made little banner flags as a background for them. The banners there were echoed with the ribbon and paper flag underneath the sentiment. Pulling design elements from the feature item on a card–or in any other creation–and repeating them throughout the rest of the piece is an easy–and eye-pleasing–way to finish the design.
