The Perfectly Penned sentiment stamp set is one of those I’ll never tire of using. It has an elegance and a crispness that lends itself both to masculine and feminine cards. This one happens to be for a November male birthday. I had a lot of fun making it, although just about everything in it other than Perfectly Penned is ‘retired’. For a hobby stamper, though, “retired” is just the term we WISH we were, employment-wise, so that we could stamp more!
To translate this card into current SU products, here’s what I did:
The dsp background on the card is from a Fall SU dsp pattern a couple years ago, but all the colors in it are still current. You could easily use one of the lovely patterns from this season’s Orchard Harvest dsp–it’s gorgeous and versatile with its own version of rich, intense Autumn colors.
I used a retired Bigz die to cut out the leaves that I used as the 3-d layer on the card. I made a LOT of these leaves–a bunch of which I used on a fall wreath I’ll post later. I sponged the edges of all of them (some from cardstock; some from dsp) and then used my bone folder to “draw” veins into each leaf. These gave more dimension as it allowed me to fold and shape the leaves. The negative space from where I cut the leaves–I used to sponge leaves onto cardstock on the main/sentiment panel of the card. This was where I really had fun–playing with the ink colors is such a joy to me–I’ve learned that even I can create little works of art with SU tools!
To translate the leaves on this card to current SU products, the “Autumn Accents” Bigz Die in the holiday catty would be perfect! This new die has four leaf shapes (each a bit different than the four on my old die), plus an acorn! I’ll be adding this to my arsenal very soon.
Ah–one other very cool component of the card that is current is the paper piercing around the sentiment panel. The paper piercing tool and various templates, offered both in the Annual Catalog and the Holiday Catalog, are a dream to use–creative possibilities are endless!
