Raising Awareness via MDS

Terri Orr IBN-DC013-003

This project is inspired by and combines several things that I’m very passionate about–Stampin’ Up! products, digital designing, the Pals group I’m proud to be part of….. and raising awareness about fighting cancer through Relay for Life.

I have the pleasure of interacting regularly online with both Kris and Nicole, the design team at Impressions by Nicole. I was quite happy when they started their digital challenge. This week it’s a color challenge, IBN-DC013–the lovely combo of Primrose Petals, Pink Pirouette, and Old Olive.  After putting this project together and re-reading Nicole’s comments on liking these colors together partly because of their saturation levels, I got tickled. Because I played around with the opacity of the colors all over my page–so not really sure how that might impact the color perception here!

I created the ‘designer background paper’ using a bajillion stamps from both the Cheerful Treat and Twitterpated stamp brush sets, and changing the opacity of everything by vastly varying degrees. My favorite part of the dsp is the honeycomb background I used (from Twitterpated); I added it in both Old Olive and Crumb Cake (an allowed neutral–I hope!), and then decreased the opacity on both by over 50% to create a very subtle ‘grid’ upon which to add the flowers.

There are also three different Old Olive SU dsp’s used here, a couple of buttons layered atop each other and then finished off with a Very Vanilla ribbon knot, and a couple of butterflies stamped from the Summer Home and Elementary Elegance stamp brush sets.  I built my page layout completely around the purpose of the page–the movement away from, forward-looking, and BEYOND cancer. The circle image at bottom right is literally run off the page in an effort to show that movement.

The star of the page is the sentiment. It’s borrowed from an article about another Pal, who is a volunteer with cancer patients in the Atlanta area. The “CANCER CANNOT list” is so very perfect and appropriate — as encouragement for someone currently battling cancer, as a rallying cry to everyone to support the efforts against cancer….and as a reminder to folks like me.  I’m a long-time cancer survivor myself, but my father just lost HIS 2-1/2 year battle with cancer in January. Dealing with his passing, it’s good to remember that cancer never destroyed his faith, didn’t conquer his spirit, and that I know I’ll see him again someday.

And it’s really good to be reminded to “Live every moment”….regardless of how many moments I have…I want to make the most of them!

A sprinkling of love for IBN-DC012

I really like digital challenges because all I have to do is sit here at my computer, relax, and create. My current crafting setup requires me to “put away” everything if there’s the remote possibility of company, and I don’t always have the time to get everything out I might need to play with literal ink and paper. So the virtual world of papercrafting is a wonderful outlet for me when I don’t have the time (or energy)  to play in the real world.

SO, here I am playing along with Kris and Nicole and their digi-challenge at Impressions by Nicole.  This week’s sketch inspired me to go both subtle (as in my previous post), and then very bold with this digital Valentine’s card.  I also stamped up the white space again, but I kept truer to the sketch’s design this time.

All my stamps are from the Sprinkled Expressions stamp brush set, and the papers and embellishments used are from the Sweet Shop suite. I went crazy with my color scheme, using Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder, Baja Breeze, Pool Party, Whisper White, Lucky Limeade, and Island Indigo. All-in-all, a very bright and vibrant valentine!

A soft-spoken card for IBN-DC012

Terri Orr IBN-DC012

Inspired by Nature — and a several other stamp sets and lots of dsp — went into this over-sized card creation for the current challenge at Impressions by Nicole.

IBN-DC012-425x550This time it’s a sketch challenge, and I love working with the ones Kris and Nicole provide.  The sketch this week allows for a lot of white space…something I always have to fill with …something.  I can’t even do clean and simple in the virtual world!  There are nine different stamps added to the background paper here; all were done in Soft Suede against Crumb Cake, with a reduced (and varying) opacity for more subtlety. I think this would work equally well as an expression of sympathy, a get well card, or a way to just say hello.

Here’s what I used :

  • Stamp brush sets: Inspired by Nature, Upsy Daisy, Delicate Doilies, Always
  • DSP: Well Worn
  • “Ink” and Paper Colors: Cajun Craze, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, More Mustard, Not Quite Navy, Soft Suede, Very Vanilla
