Playing with Colors and Shapes in MDS

When MDS was updated with the 2013-2015 In-Colors and the new color shades, I wanted to see how everything compared to the returning colors. Plus I wanted to try out the hex punch just a little bit, too. This led me to playing around with the color families and deciding to work in some “punch play” as well. I haven’t purchased nearly as much in MDS as I’d like to have, but just the ‘basics’ will give you a tremendous bang for your buck…and a whole lot of fun playing time.

Worked my “brown neutrals” around Baked Brown Sugar; the “true-blues” around Soft Sky; the “blue-greens” around Both Bermuda Bay and Coastal Cabana; the “pinks” around Blushing Bride and Strawberry Slush; and the “grays and purples” around Smoky Slate and Wisteria Wonder.

Grays and Purples

Most of the sentiments are from various MDS stamp sets, except the butterfly quote–it’s simply one of my favorite all-time quotations that I added via the text tool.

Each page is filled with some appropriately colored embellishments and quite a bit of background stamping, playing with the opacity to mute the effect.

Working on Enthusiasm for PMDC-023

PMDC-023-001Sketch challenge this time at Pixel Maven’s Retreat. I love sketch challenges anyway, because it gives me the skeleton to build my project around.PMDC-023

This particular sketch I translated into a square, as I’d originally intended to make a scrapbook page, then ended up with a card design, simply because I enjoyed working with the stamp set so much. Those kids images are about as upbeat as you can get, and made me smile as I contemplated “jumping for joy” myself.

I love the ‘recipe’ feature in MDS (the “Project Supply List”); it makes for a quick and easy reference of everything I used in my project. Here’s what’s up with today’s enthusiastically put-together digital card:

  • Stamps: Be Yourself, Happy BDay, Season by Season
  • Papers: Be Yourself DSP, Whisper White CS
  • Inks/Color: All colors were pulled from the DSP with the Picker Tool; the stamp images on the background paper were all reduced in opacity in varying degrees–all less than 40%
  • Tools and Embellishments: Circle Punch, Flag Punch, Perfect Pennants Punch (Circle 2)
