Thanks for CTS#218

CTS#218

This week’s CAS(E) this Sketch challenge has a very versatile sketch that I took some liberties with but loved that I finally really embraced some white space with my project.

CTS_218The clean-lined sketch just about begged me to use some of the Floral Phrases suite of products to complete it.  While my card somehow photographed looking black and white, it’s the fabulous Night of Navy DSP that has both a fresh and vintage vibe to it.  From the same suite, I’ve also included a portion of the lovely, intricate diecut for the horizontal piece below the sentiment, and topped it with a pop of color via some bright ribbon and a happy heart to complete.

This project had me really happily playing with paper again. I’ll still never be a “clean and simple” gal, but I think I kept with the integrity of the sketch, managed to keep it fairly CAS, and still got to use some ribbon and a LOT of layers–a good compromise!

Hello, Yellow

Helloyellow

The Paper Players’ Sketch Challenge (#341) pp341this week encouraged me to break out this lovely daisy die for the first time. It’s intended as a tag, but it’s also perfect on a card.  I also got to play with one of my favorite color combos here–navy blue, white, and a soft yellow.  I’m disappointed that absolutely nothing I tried with the photography would produce an actual navy-looking color…but this looks good as BLACK, white, and yellow, too, in the photograph, so I’ll likely play with that color combo very soon!

Here’s what I used:

  • Stamps: Jar of Love
  • Ink: Night of Navy (really!)

  • Tools: Stitched Shapes Framelits; Timeless Tags Thinlits Dies
  • Embellishments: some retired So Saffron ribbon from my stash, that I ruffled randomly around the oval frame. (I pretty much can’t live without ribbon somewhere on my cards.)

Thinking of You Serenely1

Final day of this batch of Serene Scenery cards, inspired by Patty Bennett’s video tutorial here.  This card makes me think of warm, golden summer days spent on my grandmother’s small farm many, many years ago. We would take a walk “up on the hill” and lay in the tall hay/grass and find patterns –of people or animals– in the soft white clouds above us. I love it when doing the crafting I love reminds me of such happy memories!

Shine On!

Shine On 1

Day 3 of my Serene Scenery batch of cards was inspired both by Patty Bennett’s tutorial here and by fellow Pal Brian King’s brilliant butchering of two of the words in the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits. A slicing-and-dicing, and then a mash-up of “sunshine” and “congrats” produced Brian’s “shine on”–a perfectly bright and happy phrase, backed with some more serenity in this fabulous dsp.

Serene Hope

Spring Hope 1

The amazing Patty Bennett has a video tutorial here that I used as inspiration for a group of cards I’ll be showcasing this week.  I basically used her layout idea–designed for the SU notecard size–and adapted it to fit the size I needed for my batch of cards. It simply produced the perfect way to showcase this wonderful SU paper stack, my stash of ribbon, and the messages I wanted to convey.

Suite Sayings celebration

K Bday 2017-2I’m on a birthday-cards-made-with-vintage-yumminess kick, so here’s another one along that line.  Lots of pretty bows and banners happening here. This one is a belated card for a great-niece who is officially a teen this year. (How is this possible??)  We DID “celebrate her” on her special day–I just didn’t get a card made in time! EEK!  That’s okay–she said this one was worth waiting for (gotta love that!)
